Students participating in a professional student placement with a supervisor

At Together We Heal, we are passionate about supporting the next generation of professionals entering the community services, mental health, counselling, disability and allied health sectors.

Under the guidance of Dr Roshi Raoofi, Registered Clinical Supervisor, Together We Heal offers student placement opportunities for eligible students who are looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience within a multidisciplinary clinical and community-based environment. Students can gain insight into professional practice across areas such as Psychotherapy and Counselling in Boronia, providing exposure to a supportive clinical and community setting.

Our student placement program provides students with real world working experience, and builds on their academic and practical preparation. Students improve their professionalism and self-assurance, and familiarise themselves with various client support requirements. Students become more aware of the dynamic nature of the family and individual support and services sector, and the growing need for these services.

The exact activities available to each student will depend on their course, placement objectives, level of study, demonstrated competencies, supervision requirements and permitted scope of practice.

Students will not be expected to undertake activities outside their level of training or approved placement scope.

Clinical Supervision & Professional Development

Placements are supported by Dr Roshi Raoofi, Registered Clinical Supervisor, together with appropriately experienced members of the Together We Heal multidisciplinary team where relevant.

We think that field experience should be about more than just seat time.

We want our program to be a place where students can engage critically about their field experiences. We want to create a space where students can be given and receive feedback to help develop the skills necessary to build their self-confidence in the profession.

Students may have opportunities to participate in appropriate Clinical Supervision, reflective practice, case discussions, team communication and professional development activities, subject to their individual placement arrangements.

A Multidisciplinary Learning Environment

Placement with Together We Heal provides the opportunity to work within a multi disciplinary team.

Students may be introduced to how different professionals and support staff work together to provide and support person-centered care and support, and the contribution of a Psychologist and the multidisciplinary team.

This may support students to appreciate other professional roles and collaborative practice, as well as the communication and liaison between professional services and the need for and benefits of coordinated and integrated support.

Placement Eligibility & Interview

Student placements are not automatically guaranteed.

All applicants are considered individually and are required to complete an interview and suitability assessment before a placement can be offered.

Consideration may include:

  • Current course and education provider
  • Placement requirements and required hours
  • Learning objectives
  • Previous experience
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Professionalism and reliability
  • Suitability for the clinical environment
  • Required checks and documentation
  • Availability of an appropriate supervisor
  • Current placement capacity within the clinic

Depending on the placement, students may also be required to provide relevant documentation such as a Working With Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check, National Police Check, identification, insurance or education-provider placement documentation before commencing.

All placements remain subject to the requirements and approval processes of the student’s education provider and Together We Heal.
